Fluorescent epoxy/natural polymer stone

Natural stone looking hold made of reinforced epoxy resin and natural polymers with fluorescent material. Extra ligth, made as "safety hold"  - under extreme compressive strength breaks without sharp pieces.

Safety Holds

In a last few months one of our projects has been related to the materials for safety holds. By safety holds we consider holds made from material strong enough to survive normal daily usage for a few years, and most importantly, material which is not falling apart when subjected to extreme compressive strength. Insimply words, climbing hold can be broken/material may failed, but not failed apart and create dangerous pieces coming down from climbing wall.

Of course,this pro...

This hold was made from silicone based resin in combination with strong epoxy resin in order to reinforce natural stone composition:

Safety Issues - broken holds

Even very strong hold can be broken, from one reason or another. We made some experimentswith silicone based hold containing reinforced natural rubber fibres. If thistype of hold breaks (we used hammer) it does not fall from the wall, and there areno dangerous pieces falling down. We did not use the net of composite fibres, like some companies (HRT) do, but made elastic fibres to be a homogenous partof climbing hold.

Silicone based climbing holds

Silicone based materials are great for making artificial stone, and maybe the best solution for making climbing holds with natural stone look.

Backside of the hold is covered ...

New compositions

Posted at 04:23 PM on December 13, 2008 Comments comments (0)
In last 3 months more than 30 different resin/resin compositions/materials were prepared and tested. Some of the best results will be published soon on our blog page.
We were tested mostly epoxy and silicate based materials - main goals were mass reduction and general toughness improvement.

Modificated epoxy resin - 3

The biggest problem with epoxy is - fracture:

Epoxy is hard, but fragile. The same problem is with most polyester and poyurethane compositions. Particulary, hold's edges are in danger:

Greengrip modificated epoxy materials have epoxy hardness, but are not fragile - we have modif...
